    Description

This is a fabulous and rare antique, early 19th century, miniature sewing or work table, possibly made for a doll or as an apprentice piece.
It is made of mahogany stained to look like walnut. The lower carcass of the table is covered with antique blue French silk. The style of the table is Federal or English Georgian Regency circa 1800-1825, though the table itself was made between 1830 and 1845 based on museum literature.
The top of the little worktable is inlaid with a chess or chequers board.
The interior holds little cubbyholes for thread, thimbles etc. There is a lock but no key.
There is a hole to the silk inside the table, please see photos. The antique Georgian sewing reel shown on the table top is not included.
The table belonged to Countess Marie Tarnowska, author of several books on antique miniature furniture and dolls.
I have seen similar tables only a few times in 50 years of collecting. It is a cross collectible appealing to both doll and miniature furniture .
Measures 9 inches high, top is 9.5 inches by 7 inches.
