    Description

Original lithographed map of the Bermuda Islands, in full printed color by parish, printed more than 120 years ago.
The map labels Gallows Island, today known as Gibbet Island, from its use as the place where runaway slaves were gibbetted, or hung as punishment for trying to escape.
Among the other named places and features are the Channel to Hamilton Harbor, Port Royal Bay, Harrington Sound, Admiralty House, the Ducking Stool, Swing Bridge on Long Bird Island, Naval Tanks at Tobacco Bay, Wreck Hill, Horse Ferry at Walford Island, Pembroke Marshes, Salt Kettle, Devonshire Fort, Castle Harbor, Hamilton, Somerset, Penisoon Hall, Murray Anchorage, and the Southampton Light House and Telegraph Station.
The map was published by George Franklin Cram, Chicago, in 1900. The image area measures 25.4 x 33.5 cm [10" x 13¼"].
