Description
Original 1893 antique color lithographed map of the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean, printed more than 125 years ago.The image area measures 25 x 14 cm [10" x 13½"].
Topography is drawn in relief, longitude is measured from Greenwich and Washington, and there's an inset of the Lesser Antilles at the upper right.
It is titled
Map of Haiti and Santo Domingo
. (Until the early 20th century, the Dominican Republic was often referred to as "Santo Domingo.")
Details include railroads, cities, towns, shoreline features, rivers, and mountains, with topography drawn in relief.
There's an index to cities and towns in a panel at the left, and among the named places and features on the map are Port au Prince, Jeremie, Mirebalais, Gonave Island, Escocesa Bay, Great Inagua, Fletcher Reef, Cape Fulso, Puerto Piata, Concepcion de la Vega, Neiba, Windward Passage, Samana, and the city of Santo Domingo.
