    Very large antique copper engraved sea chart of the Gulf of Mexico, Florida, Central America and Caribbean, by Jacques-Nicolas BELLIN (1703-1772).
    Nicolas Bellin worked as the Depot de la Marine as hydrographic engineer. He is one of the most important mapmakers of the 18th century.
    In 1741, he became the first Ingenieur de la Marine et des Depots des cartes et plans de la Marine and became official Hydrographer of the French King.
    During his work as official Hydrographer, the Depot de la Marine was the most active center for the production of sea charts and maps, with a large atlas folio of sea-charts of France, the Neptune François. He also produced some sea atlases of the world, as "the Atlas maritime and the hydrographie Française".
