    Description

'Palais et Jardins de Cha-Sousa, Prince de Ragi-Mohol. Plan de la Ville de Mongher [Palace and Gardens of Shah Shuja, Prince of Rajmahal. Map of the Town of Munger]' by Jakob van der Schley & Jacques Nicolas Bellin.
In the late 16th century the important historical city of Monger was ruled by the Mughal Emperors. Shah Shuja, the second son of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, fled to Monger to escape persecution from his brother in the fight for power. After negotiations with his brothers, Shah Shuja was made governor of Monger. The palace in the image was later built by Shah Shuja on the west end of the fort.
Jakob van der Schley also known as Jakob van Schley (26 July 1715 Amsterdam – 7 February 1779 Amsterdam) was a Dutch draftsman and engraver.
He studied with Bernard Picart (1673-1733), whose style he later copied. His main interests were in portrait engraving and production of illustrations for Pierre Carlet de Chamblain de Marivaux's "La Vie de Marianne" (1688-1763), published in The Hague between 1735 and 1747. He also engraved the frontispieces for an edition from 15 volumes of the complete works of Pierre de Brantôme (1540-1614), "Oeuvres du seigneur de Brantôme", published in The Hague in 1740. Most plates in the Hague edition of Prévost's "Histoire générale des voyages" are signed by van der Schley.
He cooperated with Prospero Marchand, who owned many of his engravings.
Antique copper plate print, folding print.
