Description
This is a presentable,
"Ötven"
or 50 Pengo
"Hungarian National Bank"
note from the Kingdom of Hungary. It is dated October 1, 1932, well before World War II. In 1926 Hungary had changed from the old
“Korona”
to the now equally obsolete
“Pengo”
.
After World War I and the collapse of the Habsburg
"Austrian Empire"
Hungary was at first ruled by a socialist-democratic government that lasted from 1918 until 1919. Then a communist government took over but it only lasted until 1920 when Hungarian Admiral Miklós Horthy entered Budapest and put an end to it.
The Parliament, on March 1, 1920 re-established the
"Kingdom of Hungary"
and, since they could not bring back the Habsburg claimant as King, invited Horthy to become
"Regent"
which he did. He lasted until World War II.
