    Description

The Pengo was the currency of Hungary from January 1, 1927, when it replaced the korona, until July 31, 1946, when it was replaced by the forint. Although the introduction of the pengő was part of a post-World War I stabilization plan, the currency survived for only 20 years and experienced the most serious case of hyperinflation ever recorded.
The bank note features serial numbers; A039 and 072995 in red ink across the top, and is payable by the Magyar Nemzeti Bank.
István Szécheny, considered to be the greatest statesman in Hungarian history, is featured on the right-hand front of the banknote.
