Welcome to my ebay store:SALE PRICED
THIS is a wonderful rare Beauty of a French costumed early circa 1870s doll, there are usually only a few like these ever available on the net. Mystery maker but she is marked on the shoulder plate with mold number 143 and the size 5/0. Most of the similar dolls in fishing costumes were made by F. Gaultier with their distinct face and usually black hair with brush strokes, but this one has only mold number and size mark on plate and molded hair so her maker is a mystery. The number 143 in a French style writing, is a known all bisque doll mold. THERE could be other marks on inside of shoulder plate but the clothing is sewn on.
She came from a collector of all French dolls from fashions to jumeau to unusual ( this lady and paper mache dolls).
Her unglazed flesh toned bisque shoulder head is on a stuffed body (firm, possibly excelsior or sawdust), with carved or composition/wood lower arms and legs. TINY molded dimple from firing on face. The upper arms are wired for moving, the lower legs are either bisque or compo, they are hard to the touch. Some of these dolls have bisque lower legs, hard to know as stockings are on and shoes are set in place. To remove the clothes would damage her.
Her costume is sewn on and has been cabinet kept since day one by original owner family! She joined my doll collection which has gotten so big I am slowly downsizing as I get older. I would rather my girls go to a loving home than end up unwanted by family!
She wears a wool dress and apron, under the dress is a slim stiff fabric slip, and under that pantaloons and over all is a trimmed wool shawl. NO moth holes! Amazing fine condition for a girl kept in cabinet for many years.
She has original black knit fabric thin silk type stockings on lower legs that are immaculate and her HAT is amazing! It is fitted to her head, and handmade of muslin type fabric trimmed in lace with her original bead dangling earrings sewn onto the hat. Very clever!
In her hand is the string holding her ORIGINAL basket, the lid opens, she also has a separate antique basket for display of her seashells AND another small round tub holding fish. (The fish tub and fish are a newer addition).
Her face is bisque unglazed in parian style with painted features but her brown molded hair is glazed.
(Background French screen prop not included), This listing includes the doll with her basket in hand plus two baskets with shells and fish.
Her feet are covered in what looks like maybe glued on leather which is solid on bottom but worn due to age has disintegrated a bit but nothing loose.
AMAZING doll to round out your French collection!
